One day we had to explain to our four year old that she did not need to try to control everything in our home. We explained how we were her parents, we were the adults, and we were in charge. We assured her we were going to always be with her and always take care of her. She looked at me with serious black eyes and said, "I will be in charge of maps". And to this day, sometimes when she is thoughtfully drawing and I ask about her picture, she will tell me, " I am drawing maps of China".
